Chapter 12
Work and Excellence
Purposeful Work
Life is challenging, and your future depends entirely on what you choose to do today. If you want to build a life you can be proud of, you must stop procrastinating and commit to purposeful work.
I want you to understand that intelligence alone is never enough. It is completely insufficient without the drive, energy, grit, and determination to apply your knowledge practically. Discard your overthinking, stop talking, and start doing. Action outweighs a thousand words, and at the end of the day, what you actually ‘do’ is all that truly matters.
To work exceptionally hard, you need something more than just going through the motions every day. There must be something in your labour that genuinely drives you. Without that purpose, your efforts turn into drudgery, and you will begin to feel lost. This is why aiming for excellence matters. It instils a sense of pride that makes all your effort meaningful and worthwhile. To truly stand apart in your field, excellence is crucial. There are no shortcuts.
Invest your heart and soul into everything you do. Find joy in your daily life by taking pleasure in creating, building, and perfecting. Ultimately, finding pleasure in your work is not so much about what you do, but rather how you do it.
Your work will take up a large part of your life, but remember that the financial reward is only half the equation; the real secret is finding your purpose within what you do. Work gives your days structure and sharpens your character, but purpose is what transforms that daily effort from a chore into a meaningful journey.
Productivity Theatre
Work should not be ‘productivity theatre’. All too often, individuals orchestrate an elaborate show of being busy, frantically managing packed diaries and stressful routines simply to feed their own egos and project an aura of importance. This superficial hustle, however, rarely equates to actual progress or meaningful output. True professional and personal fulfilment does not come from a manufactured reputation of being overwhelmed. Instead, it stems from a commitment to authentic, honest labour. To ensure your efforts are genuinely fruitful and leave a lasting impact, you must strip away the performance and focus on work that truly matters.
