Chapter 19

Service and Community

You’ve grown into a man with remarkable talents. But talents are merely raw potential; they don’t mean much if they only serve your own ambition. The true measure of your strength isn’t how much you can acquire, but how much you can give back. I want you to understand that you belong to a wider community, a network of people whose lives are bound up with yours. When you use your sharp mind, your energy, and your unique gifts to uplift those around you, you are engaging in the highest form of service.

True generosity does, of course, begin at home, so get your own life in order before helping others. Prioritise yourself and your family first—you can’t pour from an empty cup. Once you get your house in order, you will be in a position to give something back and truly impact the world around you.

Service isn’t about grand, sweeping gestures that get your name carved into a wall; it’s about the quiet, daily choices to be useful to someone else. Look for the gaps in your community where people are hurting or struggling, and use your specific skills to bridge them. When you dedicate your abilities to something larger than yourself, you will find a sense of purpose that wealth or status could never buy. Use your unique talents to leave the world a little better than you found it.
