Chapter 36
What I Hope For You
I wrote this book for my sons, and the words that follow were originally intended for them. But if you have read this far, I hope you will allow me to extend the same wish to you.
You do not need to build your life around this book; I certainly haven’t. Treat it as one man’s guide, written in the hope that some of its lessons might help you avoid a few of life’s pitfalls. Live fully, love deeply and play as hard as you work. Strive to become the best man you can be: good, true, capable, kind and someone you can be proud of.
You have one life. Pour something worthwhile into it. You will make mistakes. You will sometimes choose the wrong path. You will discover things I have got wrong too. Learn, adapt and continue. Never surrender your responsibility for deciding what kind of man you want to become.
And if there is one thing I hope you take from this book, it is this: be true to yourself and become a man whose good character is unwavering.
Have the very best life imaginable.
