Chapter 22

True Friendship

True friends genuinely want the best for you, tell you the truth, and stand by you when it truly matters. There is nothing better than being around someone who is both a fiercely true and loyal friend and incredibly fun to be around. When that same person brings effortless joy, laughter, and comfort to every moment you share, it becomes something incredibly special. Such individuals are rare, so cherish them.

Be wary of fake friends. Do not keep people in your life merely to avoid being alone or for companionship. Respect yourself enough to walk alone when necessary. A true friend will always have your back, respect you, care about you, and genuinely desire your well-being. Do not waste your time and energy on superficial connections. A poor friend might betray your confidence, speak ill of you behind your back, resent your progress, or consistently bring you down.

Do not mistake familiarity for genuine friendship. Look for honesty, consistency, and people who are comfortable being themselves. Associate with ‘real’ people. Life is significantly easier when you do not have to continually wonder whether someone is merely pretending.

Choose People Wisely

The people around you will inevitably influence your standards, habits, and outlook, so choose them with great care. A significant portion of your thinking is shaped by those you associate with. Certain individuals will bring out your best qualities, while others will bring out your worst. Spend your time with people who encourage your better attributes rather than your negative impulses.

It may seem harsh, but sometimes it is necessary to distance yourself from individuals who hinder your progress, such as ‘losers’ or under-achievers. Moving away from people who do not support your growth can be a tough but essential step for your future. It is better to walk alone for a period than to surround yourself with people whose character, behaviour, or values consistently pull you in the wrong direction. Do not suffer fools gladly. Becoming the best version of yourself often involves a lot of goodbyes.

Toxic People

Distance yourself from toxic people whose behaviour consistently introduces chaos into your life. Life is too short to waste on individuals who constantly bring drama into your world or refuse to show you basic respect. When someone repeatedly treats you poorly, don’t argue with them. You cannot reason with people of poor character, and trying to win a fight against them is a trap. It is a battle that will only drain your spirit, consume your valuable time, and leave you with unnecessary enemies.

If someone thrives on conflict, keep your distance. Walking away from a pointless confrontation isn’t a sign of weakness—it is proof of your strength, maturity, and self-respect. Choose your battles wisely, surround yourself with people who lift you up, and never feel guilty for choosing a quiet, purposeful life over someone else’s chaos.
