Chapter 24

Love and Dating

Choosing a Partner

Choosing a partner is one of the most consequential decisions you may ever make. A good relationship can strengthen both people; a destructive one can damage almost every part of life. Do not choose a partner based on loneliness, desperation, appearance alone, or fear of being by yourself. Look for affection, attraction, trust, loyalty, kindness, and respect. Love does not need to be perfect, but, like everything else, it needs to be true.

Choose carefully. You are not just choosing someone to date. If the relationship becomes permanent, you may also be choosing the person with whom you will share a home, finances, responsibilities, difficulties, and perhaps children. Choose with that seriousness in mind. The person you choose as a long-term partner can have an enormous impact on your life. Choose someone you are genuinely attracted to, but place equal weight on intelligence, warmth, honesty, loyalty, and, above all, a genuine desire to build a life together.

What to Look For

It has been said that a man will date and marry a poor woman, but many women will never date and marry a poor man. Obviously, financial standing can affect attraction and relationships, particularly when someone is looking for stability and a future. Choose someone who values you as a whole person rather than simply for what you earn—someone who wants to share a life, build, and create together. While many women focus on superficial traits like wealth, status, and looks, you want to find someone who prioritises deep, genuine qualities like kindness, hard work, and responsibility. Choose someone whose instinct is to build: to solve problems, contribute, create stability, and work through difficulties rather than manufacture chaos or abandon responsibility at the first obstacle. A genuine, supportive, and trustworthy partner will want to build a shared life, and respect you without trying to control, undermine, or use you.

Any girl can offer you her looks and body, but finding true peace, support, respect, loyalty, and genuine affection in a partner is rare. It has been said that the wrong woman can be the ultimate Trojan horse: once a man welcomes her into his life, untangling his existence becomes a futile, uphill battle. While you shouldn’t lock away your heart completely, you must stand watchful at the gates, ensuring that even the most seemingly innocent guests are worthy before gaining entry. A wise man values a good, feminine woman whose soft heart, gentle demeanour, and effortless beauty create a peaceful sanctuary he naturally wants to protect and cherish.

A woman can bring enormous happiness, affection, and fulfilment into a man’s life. But the wrong woman can be a Trojan horse. What begins with attraction and affection can, in time, threaten everything he has worked to build: his independence, financial security, family relationships, and peace of mind. That is not a judgement upon women generally, but a warning about the consequences of choosing the wrong person. Never allow attraction to blind you to character. Choose carefully, take your time, and judge a woman by her actions rather than her promises.

Enjoy One Another’s Company

At the heart of a relationship should be the simple fact that you genuinely enjoy one another’s company and choose to be together. When a relationship becomes about anything else, it is already broken. Marriage, children, finances, and shared responsibilities may become important parts of a life together, but they cannot substitute for attraction, affection, friendship, and wanting one another’s company. It is about being together because you want to be together—nothing more and nothing less.

Confidence and Taking the Initiative

Look, there is no exact timeline for this, but around sixteen is generally a good time to start dating, depending on when you feel ready. Having that first relationship is a big boost for your self-confidence, but it also teaches you a crucial life skill: how to balance your feelings for someone with your schoolwork, job, and future goals. You need to date a bit and get to know different people before you decide to commit to anyone long-term. The most important thing is to keep your feet on the ground. Enjoy the romance, but never lose sight of who you are or let your emotions override your common sense.

Learn to ask a woman out confidently and respectfully. Keep in mind that it isn’t about pulling off a flawless performance or hunting for a “yes”; it’s about having the courage to see if there’s a spark, while always making sure she feels safe and comfortable.

The secret is to start small. Don’t walk up with a heavy agenda; just start a normal, light conversation about whatever is happening around you. Ask an open-ended question, listen to her answer, and let your natural sense of humour break the ice. If you can make her laugh or smile early on, the pressure evaporates for both of you. But remember to pay attention to her body language—if she’s giving you short answers or looking away, be a gentleman, wish her a good day, and step back.

If she’s smiling and engaging with you, that’s your green light to make your move. Be direct and clear—never use wishy-washy lines like “we should hang out sometime.” Instead, say something specific like, “I’ve really enjoyed talking to you, and I’d love to take you out for a drink next week.” Finally, remember that a man’s true character is revealed by how he handles a “no.” If she declines, smile, tell her it was great chatting anyway, and walk away with your head held high. Do that, and you’ll always keep your dignity intact. Rejection is usually easier to live with than years of wondering what might have happened if you had simply asked. Opportunities do not always return.

Keep in mind that when a woman turns you down, it could just be due to shyness, an existing attachment, or because you caught her off guard. Try to keep the mood playful and don’t hesitate to be cheeky and upbeat. If you feel like her timing was just off, simply try again at a later date. Above all, be authentic and natural. Avoid cheesy pick-up lines, surface-level banter, and an overinflated ego.

When you’re just starting out in the dating world, the biggest hurdle isn’t the girl—it’s the noise in your own head. You’ve got to tune out the fear of embarrassment and stop worrying about what your friends or anyone else might think. If you approach her just being genuinely yourself, you have absolutely nothing to feel ashamed of. Even if she turns you down, she and everyone else who sees it will respect you for having the guts to put yourself out there. Confidence is a rare commodity, and people admire it. And if any of the guys try to give you a hard time or laugh at you for trying, just realise it usually comes from a place of envy because they don’t have the courage to do it themselves. Look them right in the eye and tell them flat out, ‘Yeah, I think she’s great’. I promise you, they won’t know what to say to that, and they’ll shut right up.

Do not rely on pubs, clubs, social media, chat groups, or dating apps to meet someone. Messaging online is the easy way out, but it doesn’t really get you anywhere. You’ve got to make a move in real life. Many good relationships begin naturally through work, interests, friends, and ordinary life. If you like someone, take the initiative and ask her out rather than waiting indefinitely. After all, investing in a real connection is far more rewarding than spending every weekend drinking with your friends and chasing women. It is much better to go it alone and confidently ask a woman out on a real date.

As a man, you should take the initiative when asking a woman out. However, do not create a rigid rule about who must ask whom. What truly matters is your capability to initiate when interested, rather than passively waiting due to a fear of rejection.

Emotional Independence

Desperation is rarely attractive. Calmness, confidence, self-respect, and self-control generally make you better company and a better partner. Cultivate these qualities for your own sake, not merely to attract someone else. Remember that releasing the need to try so hard makes you instantly more appealing. Remain calm and maintain perspective. Affection is healthy; obsession and desperation are not. Always be yourself. Do not construct a false personality because you believe someone richer, louder, or more socially polished would be more attractive.

Certainly, strive for self-improvement, but always remain authentic. Do not measure your worth by popularity or your ease with small talk. Place yourself in environments where your true qualities can emerge, while still being willing to stretch yourself occasionally. Confidence grows from knowing who you are, not from pretending to be someone else. Be yourself and play to your strengths. The right kind of woman will want a man who is good, kind, manly, independent, handsome, confident, safe, secure, stable, and comfortable in his own skin. Develop strength, resilience, self-respect, and the ability to stand on your own feet, as women naturally respect men with these defining characteristics. Persistent helplessness is a poor foundation for a relationship.

Do not lose your head over someone simply because you are attracted to her. It is the mark of a weak and superficial man to discard his responsibilities, judgement, and family when blinded by infatuation.

Love

Love is one of the most powerful forces you will ever experience. It begins as an involuntary emotion and a deep psychological drive— something that takes hold of you naturally and manifests as a powerful mix of strong emotion, warm attachment, and fierce devotion. It is a vast landscape, and there are a few essential truths you need to understand about it as you journey through life.

First, you must realise that love wears many faces. It can be passionate, fiery, and romantic, filling your world with intensity and excitement. However, it is equally found in the quiet, steady affection of family and lifelong companions. Never mistake the absence of drama or constant excitement for a lack of love; often, the quietest bonds are the ones that run the deepest and sustain us the longest.

You also need to know that love is both an involuntary feeling and a conscious choice. While the initial spark and attraction will catch you completely off guard, sustaining love requires active devotion. True commitment means choosing to care for, respect, and stand by someone even on the days when the intense emotions quieten down. The feeling may get you into the room, but the choice is what keeps you there.

Perhaps the hardest lesson you will learn, however, is that not everything that looks like love is real. You must be careful not to mistake the mere presence of someone for the presence of love, because fake love exists. There will be people who are attracted to what you can provide, how you make them feel, or simply the convenience of having you around. They will say the right words and offer a counterfeit affection, but true love is revealed in actions, sacrifice, and consistency. Someone does not love you if they treat your presence with indifference, consistently neglect your emotional and physical needs, and show no active interest in your well-being or your shared future. When someone is with you but doesn’t truly value your soul, it will leave you feeling lonely even when they are sitting right next to you. Learn to recognise the difference between someone who truly loves you, and someone who just loves being loved by you.

Finally, real love requires deep understanding, not just passion. To love someone well, you must strive to truly know them—their fears, their dreams, and their flaws. Genuine affection accepts a person exactly as they are, while gently encouraging them to become who they want to be. Keep your heart open to it, but guard it with wisdom. Love deeply, respect fully, and remember that how you choose to love others will ultimately define the man you become.
